Overview

My Server is a web-based file manager application that allows you to manage and organize files on your NAS. It is similar to the file explorer on Windows or Finder on Mac OS. This section provides a guide on how to use My Server to handle files and folders.

Directory Tree

The directory tree shows all the available resources on the NAS for the login user. For the administrator, there are four categories Home, Public, Devices and Shared. Limited users are not authorized to see the Devices.

The following table identifies the four directories.

Command Description
Home Accessible to every user. By default there are three subfolders: Music, Photos, and Videos. Shortcuts for the three folders are available on the desktop.
Public Accessible to every user.
Devices Displays the disks on the NAS. Accessible only to the administrator
Shared Displays all of the files shared with the logged in user by other users of the NAS.

Selecting items

To select multiple items in the window content, you can:

Toolbar

The tool bar at the top of the main window provides one-click access to key commands. There are 11 quick access buttons.

The following table identifies the buttons on the toolbar.

Back Click this button to move backward through the current directory
Refresh Click this button to renew the window content
Open Click this button to open the selected items
Upload Click this button to upload files to the current directory.
Download Click this button to download the file to your computer.
New Folder Click this button to create a new folder
Share Click this button to share folders with other NAS users
Copy Click this button to copy items
Cut Click this button to cut items
Paste Click this button to paste files to the current directory
Rename Click this button to rename an item
Delete Click this button to delete the selected items
Context Menu Click this button to show context menu

Context menu

The context menu pops up when the user right-clicks on an item. Here is an example:

The following table describes all the commands contained in the context menu.

Command Description
Properties Shows the properties of the selected item
Open Opens an item
Download The same function as the quick acess Download button on the toolbar.
Select All Selects all items in the current window
Sort by name/ size/ type/ creation date/ modification date Arranges items in different order.
Copy The same function as the quick access Copy button on the toolbar.
Cut Cuts an item from the selected list to moves it to another location. The same function as the quick access Cut button on the toolbar.
Paste Places an item into a selected destination location. The same function as the quick access Paste button on the toolbar.
Rename The same function as the quick access Rename button on the toolbar.
Delete Deletes items. The same function as the quick access Delete button on the toolbar.
Set as wallpaper Sets a picture as wallpaper on the main NAS screen.
Refresh Refreshes the current window. The same function as the quick access Refresh button on the toolbar.

Change View

In the right corner of the status bar (bottom of page), click the Toggle View buttons to change the view in the content window. The three views are: View as thumbnail, View as details and View as list.

More information about the three views is described below:

View Description
Thumbnail Displays the contents as large icons with the file name below.
Detail Displays the contents as a list along with large icons and detailed information
List Displays the contents as a table along with small icons and detailed information

Sort items

My Server includes five different options for sorting items into specific sequences. To change the way items are sorted just right click on an item in the content window and choose the sort type that you want to use from the context menu.

The sort methods are described in detail in the table below.

Method Description
Sort by name Arranges the items according to their names.
Sort by size Arranges the items according to their size
Sort by type Arranges the items according to their types
Sort by creation date Arranges the items according to the date they were created
Sort by modified date Arranges the items according to the date they were last modified

Search for a File

If you are not sure about the directory or name of an item, or if you are trying to find some similar items, you can use the Search Box to search for them.

  1. Input the full or partial name of the file name that you want to find.
  2. Click the Search button and the results will be displayed in the window.
  3. If you want to go backward, either clear the search box and click the Search icon or select a directory from the directory tree on the left side.
